Peñoles
owns and operates mines throughout Mexico, from which it extracts
and processes minerals in order to produce silver, lead, zinc
and copper concentrates, silver and gold precipitates, as well
as gild. Among its key mining properties we may find Fresnillo,
the largest and richest silver mine in the world, which has
been operating almost continuously since 1550. Fresnillo produces
approximately 5% of the total world production of silver, in
other words, nearly 30 million ounces per year.
La
Herradura, the largest gold mine in Mexico, and La Ciénega,
which possesses the most abundant amount of gold in the country,
are two other important mining assets of the company.
Met-mex,
located in Torreón, Mexico, is one of the largest metallurgic
compound in the world, where non-ferrous metals are refined
and smelt to produce silver, gold, zinc, lead, bismuth and cadmium,
thereby constituting a complex formed by mines and refineries
that competes at international market levels.
The
Chemical Division develops specialty products that produce a
high profit margin and added value by making the most of by-products
obtained and produced through mining and metallurgic operations.
This division features several patents obtained by its Research
and Development Laboratory, whose quality has been acknowledged
through an endless amount of awards, and, among its facilities,
it includes the largest sodium sulfate plant in the world.
Peñoles,
a company founded in 1887, is listed in the Mexican Stock Exchange
since 1968. Its exports, mainly to the USA and Japan, equal
50% of its sales.
